Traveling with your Pet

Summer is a time when many choose to travel. Traveling with our pets is becoming increasingly popular in recent years!  If your pet is one that gets motion sickness and vomits when it rides, ask about getting some medication for nausea prior to traveling.  Research your route of travel prior to setting out and you may be able to find per-friendly hotels along the way.  Additionally, there are a few things pet owners should remember when considering venturing out with their companion.

Have your animal's vaccinations current. It's always a good idea to have a current copy of your pet's vaccination history with you when you travel in case of an unexpected emergency.  Always remember to take along any medications your pet may be on and enough to last the duration of the trip. Take along a recent photograph of your pet.  Try to take your pet’s food with them on the trip. Remember that you may not be able to find that particular variety while traveling. Always provide plenty of fresh water (not ocean, creek or lake water). Make sure you take your pet’s medications. Take extra collars and leashes in case one gets lost. I would recommend microchipping your pet prior to travel! Take their favorite treats, toys, blankets and beds to keep them comfortable in their travel.

While traveling or on vacation with your pet they may come in contact with other animals at various locations along your travels: places such as parks, rest areas, camp grounds, etc. Keep a watchful eye on your pet!  Accidents can happen quickly and can turn a fun outing into a nightmare…Enjoy your time and have fun with your pet!
